Question

My friend has type 2 diabetes. Why is his sugar always higher in the morning than any other time of day?

Answer

This is one of the defects of diabetes. The liver stores glucose and releases it into the bloodstream overnight and between meals, but there may not be enough insulin to counteract the resulting rise in blood sugar. There are several medications available now that address this problem, and your friend should discuss those options with his doctor.
