Question

My husband has been prescribed Lantus cartridge systems, without the Lantus or Opticlick delivery device. Our doctor thought we could get it from our local pharmacy. However none of them have it, and our doctor is 40 miles away. Is there a medical supply company in our area where we can purchase the device tomorrow without having to make the 40 mile trip to our doctor?

Answer

There are several choices:
  1. Use Lantus via a vial and syringe for a few days. If he doesn't know how to handle insulin the old-fashioned way, have someone local (perhaps a hospital or community health nurse) help. You can draw a few days' worth ahead of time.
  2. Suck the insulin out of the cartridges into syringes. (See above.)
  3. Ask the pharmacist to arrange urgent delivery of the device you need.
  4. Call customer service at the manufacturer for assistance.
