Question

My mother-in-law is a disabled veteran who suffers such maladies as Alzheimer's, several bone disorders, blindness, etc. During her years of military service as a Marine, she was directly exposed to aluminum oxide and now has developed diabetes. I know that many of her illnesses are probably and likely caused by exposure to the aluminum oxide. Is there any connection found to date between exposure to aluminum oxide and type 2 diabetes? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

I am unaware of such a link. I did a search of PubMed and found 13 articles referencing both "aluminum oxide" and "diabetes" -- none seem to imply that there's a link.

On the other hand, if your mother-in-law was exposed to dioxin (in Agent Orange), there's a link between that exposure and type 2 diabetes.
