MedTagger

Overall rating (between 0 and 4 stars):

Review of MedTagger by wwq 20Oct2009

A social-networking approach to ranking webpages about diabetes.

Rating:

Pros:

  • Although the website's name implies it's for all medical websites, presently it is limited to diabetes.
  • Their database presently includes only 100 major websites. This means that searches will not include "clutter" from the internet, but be focussed on useful information.
  • You can review other people's rankings, and go to the webpages themselves, without signing up.
  • Free.
Cons:
  • Database presently includes only 100 major websites.
  • Need to sign up to rank webpages.
  • People can self-identify themselves as health professionals, educators, or patients without any review of their credentials.
Comments:
MedTagger is a new website as of this week (October 19, 2009), and the company decided their first venture into the health-care market would be for diabetes, and that their first announcement would be as exhibitors at the IDF meeting being held in Montreal this week. Basically, it's a database that tracks rankings by self-identified health professionals, educators, and patients. Searching at their website allows the user to see a list of webpages meeting the search criteria, and ranked by other users as being helpful.

The web interface is reasonably easy to use, especially if all you want to do is search.

Is it useful for people with diabetes? Probably. At present, there are very few "tagged" webpages, but if enough people sign on to become "taggers" the reliability of the info should increase.

Summary: A clever merger of technologies.

Recommended? Yes. (If you register, be sure to mention that you heard about MedTagger from us — If you sign up, please type in "UBS-4154" when asked for "Referrer Information Code".)
