It seemed too good to be true. And it was. Three new studies dash hopes that spleen-cell injections could help reverse
type 1 diabetes.
Teams at Washington University, the University of Chicago, and a team at Harvard's Joslin Diabetes Center all
tried to repeat Massachusetts General Hospital researcher Denise Faustman's
2003 experiment.
It didn't work. None of the three teams got the same result. The spleen cells, it turns out, didn't become islet cells.

Divers with diabetes who use medication (oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin) to treat diabetes but who are otherwise qualified to dive may undertake recreational scuba diving, provided certain criteria are met.

An annual, one-day call-to-action, the alert's goal is to raise awareness that diabetes is serious, that you can have diabetes and not even know it, and that taking a Risk Test is an easy way to find out if you are at risk for diabetes.
